Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Academy
STEM
As we move further into the 21st Century, more and more jobs will require skills in the areas of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. In this world of continued technological advances, educational reforms in the aforementioned fields are required to prepare students to compete with the advances in technology and the ever evolving global market.
Purpose
The purpose of the STEM academy is to introduce students to the world of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, collectively, to improve their knowledge and skills required to solve complex problems, evaluate evidence, make sense of information, and apply it to real world situation. Students will be trained to think critically as they move through a project-based hands-on curriculum.
Curriculum
The curriculum includes a variety of STEM lessons and activities from various resources, including project-based hands-on activities, integrated into the Louisiana science and math standards. Guest speakers and field trips to various STEM-based facilities are used to enhance the curriculum and aide students in making connections between science, technology, engineering, and math and real-world applications.
